Healthy Habits

“Healthy people are simply those with healthy habits…”

If you listed out all the habits you have what would you think of them? I’m talking the fundamentals here, like amount of sleep each night, stress levels, how much fresh fruit and veg you eat, how much sugar, caffeine and toxins you have each day.

A house built on rocky ground

The fundamentals are what provide the foundation of your health and fitness. Imagine building a house without strong foundations. Would you expect it to last or have cracks in it with time?

I see a lot of people concentrating on their appearance using make-up, quick fix diets, etc but without the foundations in place it won’t make much difference long term.

A strong, attractive, healthy body is built from the ground up. From the inside out by consistently sticking to good habits 90% of the time.

Real change comes from within. If you want good skin, healthy hair and lots of energy the above fundamentals will give you all of that. No supplements or quick fixes required.

So, what can you do about it?

Ideally you could look to add 1 healthy habit to your daily routine each week. What could you add? It’s different for every person because every person’s situation is unique.

For some, just adding 1 pint of water when they get up will produce many positive benefits. For others, it could be more involved.

The First Steps

The first step is to look at what you are doing well and where you think you can improve. Most of you will know where that is if you think about it.

Here are some other suggestions of things to do which are healthier habits and easy to do straight away:

  • Cycle or walk to work
  • Walk on your lunch break 3 times a week
  • Take a walk when you make phone calls
  • Drink a pint of water when you first wake up
  • Pick a fruit to eat 3 times this week that you don’t normally have
  • Reduce your coffees from 3+ per day down to 2
  • Half the number of fizzy drinks you have each week
  • Upgrade your eggs to organic, free range
  • Choose grass fed, organic, free range meat
  • Drink organic red wine if you do decide to drink
  • Reduce the amount of alcohol you have when you go out by half
  • Switch beer for vodka, soda and fresh lime
  • Add fresh salmon, tuna, cod, sea bass or another fish to your meals twice this week

Healthy habits can come in all shapes and sizes. From the small, 1 pint of water in the morning to the larger, I’m going to cycle to work every day.

The key here is that they become habits. Things that you do without having to think about doing them.

Habits don’t need thought…

When you get up in the morning and go to work, you don’t think “Shall I go to work today?” Well, maybe you do but that’s a topic for another day! You just get up, get ready and go. Because that’s what you need to do.

The same goes for these healthier habits. We want to make them ingrained into your daily life so you don’t have to think about doing them, they happen naturally.
